'I have read quite a lot on this and other fora concerning a problem with these, and am hoping someone has an up-to-date solution. I am using Linux Mint 10 Gnome from a USB stick without installing on a Dell Inspiron Laptop. It tells me that I need a non-free driver for the Broadcom wireless facility. When I search for new drivers, it tells me what I need and then I try to Activate it. It connects to the internet (via a temporary wired connection) and tells me it is downloading and installing the drivers After a while it stops with the error message: SystemError: installArchives failed I have reloaded the packages in Package Manager and searched for Broadcom SDA (STA?), but there appears to be nothing available. Any ideas as to how I overcome this please?
Those broadcom wifi devices are a pain. When in Linux Mint, open Synaptic Package Manager Completely remove (right click and choose 'Mark for complete removal') the following firmware-b43-installer dkms bcmwl-kernel-source Apply the changes and then (without closing up synaptic) install bcmwl-kernel-source Now you can go to the Additional Drivers application and enable the driver. This should work but if it does not you may need to do this manually and reboot.
MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-846S resources, firmwares and drivers. Also, with many wireless adapters it is important to stay current as updates often contain security fixes. Matshita Dvd Ram Uj s Ata Matshita dvd-ram uj-846s driver direct download was reported as mztshita by a large percentage of our reporters, so it should be good to download and install.
The problem with that is rebooting may loose your changes in a 'Live' environment. Your mileage may vary. I haven't tried it myself. From a the Terminal, run the following sudo apt-get -purge remove firmware-b43-installer sudo apt-get -purge remove dkms sudo apt-get -purge remove bcmwl-kernel-source sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source sudo reboot. Let's take a step back and begin at the beginning.
I should have mentioned, you need an internet connection. If your laptop has a network jack, go ahead and connect it to your wifi router directly so you can access the internet to download and install drivers. In fact, you may just need to connect to the internet so you can enable the STA driver. It's not included with Linux Mint and you need an internet connection to download it before you can activate it. However, if the STA driver doesn't work, your Linux Mint installation includes bcmwl-modialiases for the Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA driver that contains a a list of pci id's which makes it possible to detect the model of a Broadcom wireless card. To verify your card, open up a terminal and run lspci -vnn grep 14e4 That command is going to output information for your device. It should look something like this 0000:02:02.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03) Now you know what chipset you actually have.
If you see BCM4311, BCM4312, BCM4313, BCM4321, BCM4322, BCM43224, BCM43225, BCM43227 or BCM43228 then the STA driver from Broadcom is the one to use. If you don't have one of the STA supported devices, you will need to check to see if it supported by the B43 or B43-legacy drivers. Compare your results with this list and/or To further confuse the issue, your firmware revision will make a difference on whether to use the B43 or B43-legacy driver.
Firmware rev 03 devices will only work with the B43-legacy driver. Some devices can be updated to Firmware rev 04 if it is supported by the B43 driver.
Follow this link for information on installing the latest firmware for your device That should keep you busy for a while. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Final note: I'd just pick up a cheap supported USB WiFi adapter rather than mess with making a Broadcom chip work. Broadcom has not exactly been helpful with their devices in the past. They are getting better but Atheros and Intel chipset are the way to go - IMO. William, I am trying this on my old Dell 4100 (HD install) and after I follow this process, there is nothing in the additional drivers but the Nvidia-96 drivers. Should I install the firmware-b43-installer or the firmware-b43legacy-installer?
Those drivers are for the broadcom 43XX line of devices. You have a Texas Instruments ACX 111.
You can find those drivers here Unfortunately your device is not fully supported. Here are the current notes on the ACX111 Works with WPA with ndswrapper drivers and without NetworkManager (wpasupplicant from command line). Using ndswrapper with the Windows drivers may be a viable alternative.
